Slalom Consulting is a business and technology consulting firm combining local expertise with national reach - solving their clients' biggest challenges through insight, experience, and innovation. Slalom Consulting is being recognized for their Business Intelligence solution, the “Retail Real Estate Portal", which allows their customers to significantly reduce analytics support overhead needed to drive the planning and strategy for store locations. The client is able to reallocate employees providing analytics support to tasks that help drive revenue. As a result, the Portal is expected to create a 40 percent increase in employee efficiency and customer satisfaction. The Slalom Consulting staff used their skills and the Microsoft Business Intelligence platform, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, and Microsoft Excel 2007, as well as Bing Maps and Silverlight to create this solution.

Citizenship Partner of the Year
Computacion Olidata LTDA, Chile
After an earthquake hit Chile in February of 2010, the Original Equipment Manufacturer Computacion Olidata supported “ChileConect@Chile” to quickly restore public access to the Internet via semi-permanent Community Technology Centers (CTCs). These centers connect victims with their loved ones through digitally equipped mobile containers placed in some of the most devastated communities. The plan is to install 50 container CTCs in the earthquake zone. This initiative was carried out under the National Digital Literacy Program executed by the Rural Life Training Foundation (Fundacion Vida Rural) and is supported by the Chilean government. The effort builds upon Olidata’s commitment to social responsibility by providing digital literacy skills and expanding opportunities for those impacted by this natural disaster.

This initiative will be completed over 12 months, and will focus on the delivery of a new data center platform comprised of Hyper-V and System Center, with the planned migration of 1600 physical and VMware virtual servers. This project will result in the client achieving tangible business outcomes, including potential savings in the area of £4-5m and an overall ROI of 140%.

daenet, Germany
daenet has created a set of composite solutions for a leading airfreight container firm, helping them manage and track more than 80,000 unit load devices or ULDs (specialized containers and pallets used to carry luggage and cargo) and 12 million annual ULD moves among 500 airports. The challenge included seamlessly interfacing with various organizations in order to receive and process all relevant tracking information. The solutions, built on top of Silverlight and Windows Mobile technology, were created using service-oriented-architecture (SOA) with Windows Server AppFabric hosting the services. While BizTalk Server is used as the integration layer, the SOA workflow in the application layer was created using Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF). The SOA solution, deployed on HP and Dell multiprocessor servers, includes a number of design elements, such as services hosting, caching, persistence and application monitoring using Windows Server AppFabric and a BI Data warehouse hosted on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 running on Windows Server 2008. The user interface for the solution was created using Microsoft Silverlight 4. daenet’s solution has enabled its customer to manage global operations much more accurately and efficiently, winning more airline customers in the process.

In addition, it is surfaced in a beautiful and easy-to-use Windows application. Asseco SEE is pushing the curve with updates to the application built on Silverlight and Power Pivot. All in all, the application goes beyond just the client, and shows the great value achieved when using the full Microsoft stack from end user through ownership to administration.

The web-based application uses (but doesn't overuse) social patterns in providing intelligence about books that the user might enjoy. It succeeds in returning recommendations that puts the user's interests first, rather than presenting loosely relevant books, as is often the case with similar sites.

Data Management Solutions Partner of the Year
Mareigua, Colombia
Mareigua has created a web-based solution that enables employers and independent workers across Colombia to make unified payments for their social security, health, and welfare systems. It integrates, validates, consolidates, and sends all the payment information to more than 150 private and government entities. Aportes en Linea also orchestrates all the funding processes, interaction, and integration with more than 17 banks across Colombia. It was developed and is currently operated using the latest Microsoft technology (SQL Server 2008 R2, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008, SharePoint Server 2007 and Office 2007). The solution, created to fulfill the requirements of millions of workers and entities, receives payments of more than 200 million dollars every month from over 365,000 individuals. It also processes nearly 2000 transactions per second. On a monthly basis, it integrates and consolidates more than 4 million files.

Express Data New Zealand Limited, New Zealand
During the global economic downturn in 2008 and 2009, Express Data New Zealand recognized an opportunity to strengthen their market position by growing their Microsoft non-managed partner base. Their plan contained three pillars: A) Licensing education; B) Non-managed partner reach and C) Growing non-managed retail fully packaged product (FPP). Express Data designed and ran Microsoft Certified Professional-level licensing courses throughout the country, leading to a 7x increase in the number of MCP certifications monthly during the campaign. Express Data also developed a non-managed retail sales and education strategy, resulting in a market share gain from 5% to 29% in just one year. Overall, Express Data grew their total Microsoft business 40% year over year, grew FPP revenue 192%, increased partner satisfaction scores, and achieved double-digit increases in profitability for the Microsoft line.

Two significant sales programs, Unified Communication & Collaboration, and Infrastructure-to-Applications Model Initiatives, jointly funded at over $400M, include engineering and development roadmaps that set the stage for new, profitable engagements between HP and Microsoft over the next three to five years. Additionally, key programs to enhance internal communication and sales and marketing program alignment with executive support have elevated the value and effectiveness of this alliance internally. Microsoft and HP will finish FY10 delivering more Microsoft revenue than any other partner, closing $1.7B in FY10. Avanade’s solutions, leveraging Microsoft Office Communications Server and Microsoft SharePoint Server technologies, streamline communications and collaboration.They created a solution for a telecommunications firm with operations in 14 countries and more than 174 million mobile phone subscribers that was expanding into Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. Existing information and collaboration tools were not integrated, feature-rich, or scalable enough to support their global expansion. Avanade deployed Office Communications Server 2007 R2, providing instant messaging and presence information. Additionally, Avanade envisioned, architected, and deployed a customized SharePoint-based portal and collaboration platform supported by rich OCS-based communication services. Avanade built a custom solution on top of SharePoint Server 2007, enabling records management and personnel search to merge local and corporate news. The solution is hosted in both European and Asian datacenters and replicates data between the two sites. This infrastructure is the foundation of an initiative to assist the organization with more effective and environmentally-friendly internal communications.

Content and Code, United Kingdom
Content and Code is being recognized for the Enterprise Content Management Solution they built for The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). RNIB wanted to improve services for customers and staff via three distinct streams of work: an intranet, a new website, and an e-commerce platform. The solution Content and Code developed takes advantage of the Microsoft stack of technologies, including Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and Microsoft Office. The final solution allowed RNIB to reduce processing time by 70%, as well as increase productivity and end-user satisfaction by 27%.

UMT Consulting Group released this solution on Microsoft Office Portfolio Manager 2007, and upgraded and ported its capabilities into the new Microsoft Project Server 2010, taking advantage of the merging of project, program, and portfolio management.

In a difficult economy, CDW managed to have double digit growth in the annuity business, driving high market share and value. CDW provided cutting-edge solutions to our joint customers with its teams in cloud applications, new and renewal enterprise agreement advisory services, and Microsoft Open Value licensing program sales, demonstrating the value of Microsoft licensing expertise. The project goal for Academy of Networking was to increase the Russian Federal Treasury (FT) personnel’s awareness of IT systems based on Microsoft solutions in time for the Federal Treasury Automated System (AS FK) modernization project. Approximately 10,000 specialists of the Federal Treasury of Russia had instructor-led training in basic computer skills and advanced IT topics. An important requirement of the project was that all the training be delivered as instructor-led classes on basic computer skills delivered in the cities where FT Regional Branches are located - a total of 87 Russian cities. Based on training materials, an e-learning course was developed in order to extend the scope of training and provide ongoing training for employees. The training project is now completed, and over 10,000 completion certificates are in the hands of trained IT professionals as a result of this national government technology initiative.

I.T. Intellect Training Solutions created a revolutionary product stack called a “Skills License”, which creates a strong relationship with their local licensing partners to resell training. The Skills License is an annuity based, three-year training license offering 44 instructor-led courses ranging from MS Office courses to the entry-level MS Desktop Support courses. Utilizing the Skills License, licensing partners were able to differentiate themselves to their customers by driving skills, certification, and deployment to their customers. For the customer, this licensing model enables volume discounts and the flexibility to attend training on any course offered over the period of the agreement, including refresher courses to fully master the subject. Since the launch of the this offering, IT Intellect engaged with 106 partners nationally, reaching 124 individual customers and 40,000 end users.

A consultancy firm selected Enabling Technologies to replace their legacy PBX and disparate voicemail systems with Enterprise Voice in Office Communications Server and Exchange Server Unified Messaging. In addition to cost savings incurred by migrating away from traditional telephony, the firm sought to connect their geographically-dispersed workforce face-to-face via video conferencing. In addition to deploying Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Enabling Technologies leveraged the extensible OCS platform to build a custom application that automated employees’ vacation/sick day accruals. The firm is projected to save $8 million in reduced business expenses and to see improvements in employee productivity and business processes that value approximately $4 million.

Lokad.Cloud is an O/C mapper (object to cloud) as well as an execution framework for Windows Azure. Lokad.Cloud is released as a .NET/C# open source framework, and its primary goal is to facilitate the development of enterprise applications on Windows Azure. The whole cloud forecasting technology of Lokad has been built on top of this framework. Lokad.Cloud can offer substantial benefits to the growing community of ISVs targeting Windows Azure. In short, Lokad.Cloud does to Windows Azure what the Microsoft Entity Framework (or NHibernate) does to SQL.
